Would you feel comfortable auctioning your property on election day?

Auction listings on the day of the federal election are down 44% in Sydney, but just 15% in Melbourne compared to last year, according to Australia Property Monitors.

There are 199 scheduled auctions in Sydney on September 7 and 414 in Melbourne. That's compared to 538 auctions scheduled for the weekend before in Sydney and 703 in Melbourne.

Real estate sage John McGrath says vendors shouldn't be worried about the election.

"It really doesn't matter. If you're going to buy a house, you'll find time. Voting will probably only take most people about 30 minutes so an election shouldn't pose a problem," McGrath told News Limited earlier this month.

"In fact if anything sellers could benefit from election day because there would be less competition."
