A big result for Neutral Bay renovator’s delight, and Eaglemont auction sale secured behind closed doors

A big result for Neutral Bay renovator’s delight, and Eaglemont auction sale secured behind closed doors

One particular bidder was very keen to secure an Eaglemont home on more than 2,000 square metres this weekend.

For those who want to have a harmless punt, there's now a tipping website, www.propertytycoon.com.au, where punters can guess auction five results in Melbourne and Sydney, with no outlay. It's mostly about testing your market knowledge with a small cash prize as a sweetener.

An opening bid of $3 million kicked off the auction at 38 Carlsberg Road, Eaglemont (pictured below), but it was the only bid from that bidder. It was left to two other bidders to move the auction closer to the vendor's reserve.

One bidder was hell-bent on securing the house on half an acre and threw out a massive final bid of $75,000 to knock out the under-bidder. Sensing the buyer had more money up his sleeve David Oster from Jellis Craig passed the property in at $3.4 million and started some negotiations behind closed doors. The strategy proved to be spot on, as a sold sticker appeared on the board a short time later and contracts were signed at $3.58 million.

The scene was set for a big result at 6 Powell Street, Neutral Bay (pictured above), when nine bidders registered their intention to bid. The vendor was not disappointed as the auction flew past the $2 million reserve and most bidders were knocked out of contention before they even had a chance to put their hands up. In the end only four bidders entered the fray before the property was sold for $2,226,000.
